Patrick Taberna Photo Exhibition
26 July - 23 September 2008
Patrick Taberna
Born on June 16, 1964, Patrick Taberna begins photographing in the course of numerous travels in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United States, Nicolas Bouvier’s L’usage du monde being his constant companion. Shortly after his arrival in Paris in 1987, he regulary attends the meetings of the Club des 30/40, led by Jean-Luc Lemaitre and later by Francis Richard.
In 1997, he undertakes a postal exhibition, “Passage en Ouest”.
In return for stimulating his taste for travel and photography, ten people each receive thirty-seven photographs on a weekly basis.
This adventure will notably lead to a correspondance between himself, Bernard Plossu and Robert Frank.
He meets, for that matter, the latter in April 1999. Patrick Taberna is awarded the FNAC mention in 2000 for “Nord magnétique” and wins the FNAC Paris award in 2001 for “Nos Italies”.
He is laureate of the HSBC Fondation for photography in 2004.
Overview
Patrick Taberna's images are extremely impressive. Because of the stability of tone, they are rather dark, those images bring people a feelings of uneasiness. Sometimes they blur, sometimes they are out of focus, and this emphasize the story of unknown place. At the same time, the story, with a familiar elements like hands, legs, scissors and playing card, recall one's memories and touch the feelings of something like dream then finally to nostalgia. This is why his style of photography gains symphathy and his images are widely accepted. His works are excellent because he never changes his taste of photograpghing during one series to another.
This is his first exhibition in Japan. We exhibited total images of 36 from "Au Fil Des Jours" series. Patrick Taberna visited Kobe around the end of exhibition and gallery talk live was held on 23rd Sep, the final day. Patrick is quite coopperative and his personality was loved by people who took part in those events.
We are expecting his coming back someday with his new series.

pure photography
TANTOTEMPO pure is our brand for young developing photographers. This is our first photo exhibition of pure photographers. 15 photographers joined together to present their works at our main gallery.
Living Life with Photography
This exhibition had a theme of "living life with photography". In Japan, photograpy is not popular even for people who have an artistic mind. They prefer contemporary art than photography. We presented those works in our 'living room' which were built inside main gallery with collaboration of furniture shop "THE PENNY WISE / Kobe" and this worked very well. Finally, during this exhibition, we made over 20 sales of pure photography.

His works are based on Japanese "MATSURI", festivals of Japanese countryside. As he was grown up in the city, he envoiusly looking into those dynamic matsuri dancing. His shooting around the MATSURI remind us the basic power of Japanese people. As Japan lost its economic power and politics, people have to cheer ourselves up. 11 July - 16 August 2009

Wakako's white - her white, taken by her own effort climbing a mountain in Hokkaido, shows various colors in it. Her images are excellent because she knows how to focus into details of snow. Looking at her images, we can hear echoes of wind, sounds of snowslides and her breathing in the winter snowy mountains. Echoes also come from her memories of her father who passed away in her childhood. She spent several seasons with her father in snowy land and this brings her back to the deep snowy winter mountain.

"plastic / fantastic" - Meg's photography of two "plastic" series-
6 Feb. - 21 Mar. 2010

Meg Birnbaum uses plastic toy camera for shooting. Her images, with plenty of silence, show stories of "one past day" and they sticks into one's mind. They are somithing poetical. They recall our memories and give us feelings of steadiness. This exhibition is build with two bodies of her series, "Corn Dogs and Blue Ribbons" and "Daylight Savings". Series "Corn Dogs" is a story of her visiting some agricultural fairs in New England. Her feelings is well expressed in this title and in beautiful monochrome prints that she felt "complicated" ballance in these fairs. One feeling comes from connection with animals, and the other from aroma of fried food like corn dogs. Both are the simbol of those fairs and showing Meg's adoration and the other hand unpleasantness within them. "Daylight Savings" is a story of summer days and it shows perfect refreshing of her mind with her family and friends and with great nature. Images are strong but quiet and also stunningly beautiful.
Meg Birnbaum visited to Japan with our invitation during her exhibition. She took part in an artist talk show on 13th March 2010 at Gallery TANTOTEMPO.
We exhibited 28 of her images.

Carlos Jurado | Artist Statement
”Since childhood my life has been surrounded by art, in specific of music. The love to the scores was the reason why I submerged in its study and composition. Although at present my life is not ligature to its execution, I am convinced that it was thanks to music that I could find my true passion. Without a doubt the creation and artistic expression that leaves from the bottom of the soul. The ways to choose are numerous, some times even confusing. But I believe sincerely that the music was and still is, the beautiful bridge that lead to me until my present route, the true link between my thoughts and their materialization.
More than a photographer I consider myself as a lover of the sounds of the nature and in my attempt to shape them as much, in the memory as in the paper, It was how that I found photography; that for me it is the most effective means to transcribe those sounds into images.
I present my work like an abstract symphony, where the sounds of cellos and violins get mix and fusion with lakes in shape of Japanese biwas, like with the percussion of teponaztliz into the rustic forests of my native land.
Although now my ears are far from the rumor of the waves and the cry of the birds, I can listen and observe them not just only from the bottom of my soul, Because they have been captured not only in my memory, but also into the Silver gelatin and I can found them again every time that I put my eyes in which it is my own personal score.”
